FABRICTERIA MAKI
About Maki Yamamoto
Couture fabrics
Maki Yamamoto Inc., was founded in 2003 in New York City by Maki Yamamoto. Born in Tokyo. She studied in the exacting world of fashion design before moving to New York in 1997.
She has a highly developed instinct for color and texture and a beautiful balance between form and design. With applications that range from curtains, wall panels to jewelry, she has established a distinct style in couture fabric. According to Maki, the architecture of a piece is its soul. Fearless in her use of interior fabrics as clothing and visa versa you could describe it as different, edgy and above all, a passionate note of pure artistry.
Maki Yamamoto is a boutique with a heightened sense of classic fabric innovation. She has worked with many acclaimed interior designers and has been featured in many publications.
Maki's inspirations include life, energy, nature, sex and passion.
Her work-When you know it is true, and then the world agrees with you, says Maki.
New collection
Custom designed to meet the requirements of your interior project, these panels can be used as window treatments, space dividers, wall hangings, art pieces or bed spreads.
Each piece is custom designed and hand sewn to make it a one of a kind artwork with options in colors, sizes and materials for hospitality, commercial and residential projects.
The fabrics are overlaid in various forms to make a three dimension artwork. The overlay could be in the form of raffles, pleats or a different kind of stitching to bring in color and texture. Fabrics range from soft cotton to gleaming organza to the versatile polyester.
For those new to the fabric world here are a few explanations:
· Ruffles- layers of fabric gathering, very organic in form. Ruffles add softness to cotton and add hard edges to metal silks, making playful fabric sculptures.
· Stitching - both hand and machine stitching often used to make organic lines like drawings on paper, or for outlining the fabric.
· Pleats - Pleats add an organized texture to the base fabric. This could be applied to most of fabrics, making fabric sculptures.
These three techniques are the basics. Besides these three there are a diverse range of other techniques that can be added on to the panels.
